adjusted20150418_105906Knit for Peace is holding a ‘Knit-In’ at the Barbican Centre, London, as part of the BBC Arts Get Creative Campaign

The event will be free to all and take place on 5th December from 10.30am to 5.30pm on the Mezzanine Level of the Barbican Centre, Silk Street, London, EC2Y 8DL

Everyone is welcome: if you have never knitted before come along and learn the basics with our team of volunteers there to help you (we’ll provide some wool and lend you some needles to get you started); experienced knitters can come and knit, chat, swap tips and techniques.

Throughout the day there will be opportunities to try out spinning and chat to our expert knitter about problems you have having, or learn how to ‘sew up’ blanket squares with a fast and efficient technique.

There will also be talks/demos from designer, Jane Crowfoot (on crochet), and Elizabeth Caush on her ‘Blanket Book’.

Knitting groups are welcome to come and hold their ‘Christmas’ meet up with us and get to know other local groups.

We are encouraging people to knit up something (maybe just a single blanket square) that can be donated to Keep the World Warm:

blanket squaresMarilynRefugee Appeal: we are sending knitted and crocheted items to the 1.8 million refugees in camps in Kurdistan where thousands died of the effects of cold last winter.
Keep Britain Warm appeal: sending dressing gowns to keep OAPs, who maybe suffering from fuel poverty, warm.

The Knit-In is part of the BBC Arts Get Creative campaign – a year long celebration of British arts, culture and creation.

We are very grateful to the Barbican Centre who are hosting this event for us, they will also be running their Christmas market that day, so there will be added fun for craft fans.
