Knit for Peace Knitting Holiday Mysore, India
16th – 29th October 2018

We are delighted to welcome Ann Kingstone as our new leader for the Knitting Holiday this October. She has the reputation of being one of the best teachers in the knitting world. Take a look at her website to see her work and her huge range of techniques. (We are very sorry that Susan Crawford had to drop out for health reasons).

The holiday offers the added attractions of the Dasara Festival. You’ll be pleased to know Mysore is less hot than the UK has been lately. We expect temperatures around 23C (73F). As well blue skies, sunshine, knitting under a shady pergola in the garden, our Knit for Peace India holidays provide an opportunity to visit schools and other  projects supported by The Green Hotel and the Charities Advisory Trust, our parent charity. You can even have a cookery lesson and there’s plenty of time for sight-seeing and shopping.

A few places left. Don’t wait. Book now.

Prices include full board, goody bag, visits to projects, support for Knit for Peace’s work and collection from and to Bangalore Airport to meet the BA flight.

12th -25th January 2019 Renée Callahan leads our next
Knit for Peace India holiday.

Would you be interested in a Knitting Retreat at the Green Hotel, India in August or November 2019? The weather is bright and cheerful for both months. How about a knitting retreat over Christmas and New Year 2019/20? Please  e-mail us to let us know so we can gauge interest!

British Knitting and Crochet Awards

We are thrilled to be shortlisted for the British Knitting & Crochet Awards. Please vote for us here.
By submitting your choice you could win one of the two bundles of yarns, pattern and more!

Sent Knitting

In June and July, thanks to your help, we were able to send out  202 sacks crammed full of knitted items to refugee drop-in centres in London and Newcastle; a homeless charity in Stockport, hospitals in Norfolk and London; community projects in Huddersfield, Scotland and Hartlepool as well as to refugee camps in Kurdistan and survivors in Syria.
Thank you for everyone who has sponsored a sack!
At the moment, we are particularly in need of adult jumpers and cardigans as well as child size 8 to 12 years old.

Pattern

Kay, Helen & Raine from Strictly K1 P1 (Wimbledon) Knitting Group visited us this month and brought some fantastic stripe scarves and were kind enough to share the pattern with us so we thought we’d share it with you too.

Scarf pattern:

The scarf is knitted length wise.
DK wool – any scraps you have
4mm needles – circular to fit so many stitches, but it is not knitted as a round.
Cast on 280 stitches and work about 7″ in garter stitch. You can make the scarf wider or narrower by adding or reducing the 7″.

Knit each row in a different colour and leave approx 4″ of yarn at each end to tie into tassles. No sewing in ends to do!!

Happy knitting!

A nice quote from one of the recipients

“We would like to thank you all for your kind donation of tops, baby hats, booties and blankets. Thanks to the generosity of the knitters we can make things more special to those who have to spend time in the hospital, both as patients and outpatients.
Every donation we receive makes a real difference to people in our own community, at a time when they need it the most.”

Knit of the Day

Here is a selection of some of our Knit of the Day which we share everyday on our FacebookTwitter and Instagram pages.
